Porches we build
Porch styles for London homes
In short: The Porch Company builds five types of porch: brick, oak and timber frame, glazed, open canopies, and repairs or replacements. The right one depends on the age of your house, the space in front of the door and whether you're in a conservation area.
Brick porches
A brick porch is the most permanent option and the most common on London terraces and semis. We match the brick, mortar colour and bond to your house, and finish with a tiled, slate or flat roof. Best for: Victorian terraces, 1930s semis and any home where you want a fully enclosed, secure entrance.
Oak and timber frame porches
Oak frames bring warmth and craftsmanship to period homes. We use seasoned oak or painted softwood with traditional joints, and roof them in clay tiles or slate. Best for: Edwardian villas, cottages and homes in conservation areas.
Glazed and modern porches
Glass and aluminium porches let light into the hallway and keep a clean, contemporary look. Safety glazing comes as standard. Best for: new builds, modern townhouses and homeowners who want light over enclosure.
Open door canopies
A canopy shelters the front door without enclosing it. It is quick to build, rarely needs planning, and lifts the whole frontage. Best for: tight front gardens and houses where the original door is a feature.
Porch repair and replacement
Leaking roofs, rotten timber and failing glazing are common in older porches. We repair where it makes sense and rebuild where it doesn't, keeping the new porch in the style of the house.
How to choose
Start with the house. Period homes usually look best with oak, timber or a matched brick porch. Modern homes suit glass. If space is tight, a canopy gives shelter without a full build. Most porches under 3 square metres need no planning permission; see our planning guide, or call and we'll advise on your home.
