On a London terrace, the porch is the first thing anyone sees. The right choice depends on the age of the house, how much light reaches the hallway, and how the rest of the street looks.
Brick porches
A brick porch with a tiled lean-to roof is the most robust option and the easiest to match to a Victorian or Edwardian frontage. Getting the brick and mortar colour right is what makes it look original rather than added on.
Part-glazed porches
A low brick wall with glazing above gives you the solidity of brick and lets daylight into a dark hallway. This is the most popular choice on terraces in Hounslow and Acton.
Fully glazed porches
Fully glazed porches suit more modern homes and inter-war semis, where they can make a narrow entrance feel more open. They are less common on period terraces, where they can look out of place next to original brickwork.
Keeping within the rules
Whatever the style, most porches need to stay within 3 square metres and 3 metres high to avoid a planning application. See the full range of porches we build, or get a free estimate for your home.
