Short answer: a brick porch is the most permanent and best-looking porch for most UK homes. It keeps the hallway warmer, adds secure storage and, when the brick and roof tiles match, looks like part of the original house.
Full brick or dwarf wall?
A full brick porch gives the most privacy and warmth. A dwarf wall porch has brick to around waist height with glazing above, which lets in more light and suits terraces with a small front. Both can usually be built under permitted development if they stay within the size limits in our planning permission guide.
Roof styles
Lean-to roofs suit terraces. Pitched and gabled roofs suit semis and detached homes. Flat roofs with a lantern give a modern look. The roof tile should match the house where possible.
Doors and security
Most brick porches take a composite or timber front door with multi-point locking. The original front door stays in place, so you get two locked doors between the street and your hallway.
Matching the brick
This is what separates a good front porch builder from an average one. We bring brick samples to the survey and match colour, size and mortar. More on this in our guide to matching brick and roof tiles.
Timing
Matched brick and made-to-measure doors are ordered once the survey is done, so the earlier the visit, the earlier your build date. We cover homes in Chiswick, Acton, Greenford and across West London.
